It is known to break seeds using a hammer. A seed may be placed in an impact area of a hammer which impacts the seed, thus destroying the seed. Alternatively, an impact area may be placed at a position along the length of a hollow seed in which seeds may be dropped to be knocked out. The hollow seeds are often used to break large quantities of seeds at one time. Thus, it is possible to break a large number of seeds in a short time.
The invention provides a method and apparatus which does not suffer from these disadvantages. The invention provides a seed-breaking device in which a seed is placed in a vibrating container, in which the container can then be shaken to rupture the seed.
Thus, a seed-breaking device according to the invention comprises a vibrating container, a seed chute through which a seed can be placed in the container, a vibrating drive for vibrating the container and a power supply for supplying electrical power to the vibrating drive, wherein the electrical power is at a frequency sufficient to vibrate the container at that frequency and sufficient to rupture the seed placed in the container. The seed is preferably placed in the container in a seedbed which is then vibrated to rupture the seed.
The invention also provides a seed-breaking device comprising a vibrating container, a seed chute through which a seed can be placed in the container, a vibrating drive for vibrating the container, and a seed conveying apparatus, wherein the vibrating drive is positioned to deliver seed to the seed conveying apparatus, and the seed conveying apparatus delivers the seed to the vibrating drive.Q:
